Rier enters footwear. For Spring 2027, its thirteenth collection, the Paris label introduces Lederwerk, a line of leather shoes made exclusively for the brand in Northern Italy. The range covers knotted sandals borrowed from vintage Alpine climbing, wooden-heeled derbies with a stud-detailed detachable flap, a square-toed mule and a laced slipper that references the traditional Haferl shoe of the Tyrol.

It is a logical extension rather than a pivot. Since founding Rier in 2019, Andreas Steiner has built the brand on the wardrobe of his childhood in the Dolomites, remaking Alpine workwear and heritage pieces in natural materials sourced through craftsmen in Austria and Northern Italy. Steiner, who worked at Prada, Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton before launching his own label and was shortlisted for the LVMH Prize in 2021, has treated footwear as collaboration territory until now. Those collaborations continue this season: a fourth edition with Salomon reworks the XA Jungle and XA Pro 3D in the collection's Nebula blue, and the Farmer rain boot, produced in Vienna by Ludwig Reiter, returns in new colours.

The rest of Spring 2027 moves the alpine vocabulary into warmer weather, with linen tailoring, silk pressed into sharp pleats, and fine rib jersey in poppy red and geranium pink. But the footwear is the story. A brand that has spent thirteen collections defining its world now makes the shoes to walk through it.
